Another project that is on hold for the moment.
This is a Benthos glass sphere used as an instrument housing for deep ocean work. The two glass hemispheres close together to form a pressure resistant enclosure, while the equipment sits inside at approximately normal atmospheric pressure.
The Benthos information in the photos lists a 13 inch sphere rated to 9000 metres and a 17 inch sphere rated to 6700 metres. The two ratings are for different sphere sizes, so the exact model matters.
I was thinking about using it as the electronics enclosure for an extreme depth submarine.
