Some teardown photos of my Cincinnati Electronics IRRIS 256ST midwave infrared camera.
It uses a 256 by 256 InSb detector, cooled by a Stirling cooler to about 77 K. Its spectral range is 3 to 5 micrometres and its thermal sensitivity is better than 20 mK.
The camera is built from several separate boards for the detector readout, analog electronics, digital processing, power supplies and video output. The cooled detector and Stirling cooler sit in the center of the chassis behind the lens.
The lens is manually controlled, not motorized.
The thermal images in the post are pictures of my dog using different palettes and polarity settings.
