The TDS3054 is a four channel oscilloscope with 500 MHz bandwidth and a sample rate of up to 5 GS/s.
The TDS3000 series includes the TDS3012, TDS3032, TDS3052, TDS3014, TDS3034 and TDS3054. The models share much of the same platform, although it is too broad to say that every bandwidth difference is only a software setting.
This TDS3054 had one dead input channel. I traced the problem to a cold solder joint, repaired it and brought the channel back to life.
I also replaced a failed capacitor. Some of the old plastic parts had dried out and broke during the not very intuitive disassembly.
I tested the oscilloscope for the first time by applying DC directly to its battery contacts. The upper contact is negative and the lower contact is positive.
